Senior Associate – Strategic Communications & Public Affairs

About the Role
As a Senior Associate, you will lead on the development and execution of strategic communication and public affairs initiatives, ensuring that clients receive expert advice and impactful campaigns. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled professional with a strong background in public relations, communications, media relations, and/ or public affairs to take on a leadership role in a collaborative and empowering work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Media Relations:
- Develop and lead communication strategies for clients across public affairs and corporate communications.
- Provide expert media relations support, including drafting press releases and thought leadership pieces.
- Manage crisis communications and reputation management for clients when required.
- Oversee the creation of engaging digital and traditional media content aligned with client messaging.
- Monitor political, media, and policy developments to provide strategic insights.
Client & Stakeholder Management:
- Act as a senior point of contact, building strong client relationships and ensuring excellent service delivery.
- Develop and implement high-level stakeholder engagement strategies, including government relations.
- Represent clients in media interactions, public forums, and stakeholder meetings.
- Support and mentor junior team members, fostering their professional growth.
Project & Campaign Leadership:
- Lead the execution of integrated campaigns, ensuring clear objectives and measurable outcomes.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to maintain high-quality standards.
- Support business development activities, including pitching to potential clients and contributing to strategic growth.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a driven and strategic thinker with a passion for public affairs and communications. You will have the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality and impact.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- 5-10 years of experience in communications, public affairs, media relations, or a related field.
- Proven ability to develop and execute successful communication strategies.
- Strong understanding of Scottish politics, public policy, and media landscapes.
- Excellent writing and editorial skills, with the ability to craft persuasive and engaging content.
- Experience in crisis communications, reputation management, and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise effectively, and deliver under pressure.
Desirable:
- Experience within an agency or consultancy environment (in-house experience also considered).
- Background in journalism, political communications, or corporate PR.
- Knowledge of digital communications, including social media strategy and content creation.
- Experience in team leadership, mentoring, or line management.
