Meet our team: Fiona Todd

What brought you to Denholm?
In short – they are the best. I’ve had a lot of success in the marketing department of a large high street recruiter over the past 5 years – but they couldn’t offer me the growth and development I was looking for. Denholm position themselves differently in the marketplace – as a true partner to the organisations they work with and this really appealed to me. The businesses Denholm work with and their reputation in market (with both clients and candidates) meant that it was a no-brainer. I’m absolutely delighted to be part of the team.
What do you specialise in?
Having been in the game for a number of years now, I’d like to say I can turn my hand to pretty much anything! That said, I’ve had particular success within professional services and financial services over the years, with strong relationships with many of the big players in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. The other sectors that I’ve worked frequently in are retail and eCommerce, science and technology and within the public sector. I enjoy working with candidates from all backgrounds – including product, brand, comms and digital. Here at Denholm, I’m going to be growing our name ‘on-the-ground’ here in Glasgow.
Tell us about a career highlight…
Working to help fill the Marketing team for the organisational committee of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will always be special to me.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m a bit of a foodie so I’ll likely be cooking, baking…or just eating! I’m not a big fan of recipes though and have a “let’s chuck it all together and see if works” approach in the kitchen. When eating out my preferences would either be Thai, Mexican or a good steakhouse. Thankfully I’m also a fitness freak and work out most days which is definitely helpful with all the food I consume!
Top three accounts you follow…
I like Refinery29 as it’s a good all-around girly lifestyle site, and I love Fitness on Toast because it has a nice mix of fitness and nutrition advice as well as travel and fashion, but workwise it’s got to be Business Insider as it’s got a bit of everything.
What are you reading at the moment?
Ever since watching HBO’s Big Little Lies, I’ve started reading all of Liane Moriarty’s books. They are fantastic! I’ve also always got Steve Peter’s “Chimp Paradox” and Natalie Nahai’s “Webs of Influence” open on my Kindle as both are fantastic and I refer to them in different situations both in work at home.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about a career recruitment?
If you have strong interpersonal skills then you are halfway there to being a great recruiter. Come in with an open mind, and take every bit of training you can. If you give it your all for the first 12 months, you will be on your way to carving a fantastic career with great perks and benefits.
